A New Airport for Mexico City
A New Airport for Mexico City!
Fernando Romero, the son-in-law of Carlos Slim, will partner with architect Norman Foster to build this important international airport in Mexico’s capital city.
Norman Foster is one of the world’s leading architects and designed the Beijing Terminal 3 Airport.
The new Mexico City airport will cover nearly 11,400 acres of former lakebed adjacent to the present over-crowded facility and will requiere an investment of over nine billion dollars.
The new airport will have six runways and the capacity to serve 120 million passengers per year when it is completed. The old airport can only handle 32 million passengers per year. Construction of the new airport is due to begin sometime in 2015
Communications and Transport Department Secretary Gerardo Ruiz told the press, “This airport will be a grand and very modern project that will have a great dose of Mexican symbolism.. Without a doubt, this new airport will be a reference around the world and a great door into Mexico.”
Mexican officials said they hope the new airport becomes the main air hub in Latin America.
